I'm planning a redecoration of my bedroom at my mum's house. At present its not very me, after I changed through uni; supposedly growing up, but I see it more as growing a vast dislike for materialism and the fact I just have too many uneccessary things. I've also tried to ban myself from shopping...it's not going very well because of working at Arcadia...but anyway, I have forced myself to 'get rid' of as much as possible. I've moved my furniture around and now I am just finishing the clear out and waiting for the boy to come back from a now extended trip to the US, so he can paint the walls for me! It still needs a lot of work but here's what I have drawn on for inspiration:

Marc Hare for Topman

For those of you that don't already know Topman have recently launched a designer collaboration with shoe designer Mr. Hare. I have had the pleasure of working with these shoes throughout an internship at Topman PR and on into my new job (squeal!) as Junior Digital Designer at Topman, as well.

Most of the shoes have already sold out, with only a few pair remaining online, but what I can tell you is not to panic. With Christmas only round the corner there is another chance to get your hands on a pair being released in October. Date in the diary? Good, your boyfriend/brother/father/long lost relative will thank you for it.

Too Long A Wait...

It's been ages!...and so much has happened, but I really want to blog more regularly and hopefully I will be able to soon as things settle down. I've finished uni, completed a months interning at Topman in PR (which was really good! and met some lovely people) and managed to bag myself a job as Topman's new Junior Digital Designer.

This means I get paid to play on Photoshop and flash, and research ideas, graphics and inspirational things: aka my perfect job. I couldn't feel more blessed and grateful! My team is full of lovely, exciting and diverse people and I'm already friendly with other departments who work close by, from interning, which is even better. (the perks of the job are a big bonus too!) How are people finding job hunting?

The plan now is (after finishing moving my stuff back into my room, and redecorating, which has been a very long process and continues...) to save for a house deposit. It feels way to grown up and sensible, but I am desperate to own property and make somewhere my own, without having to worry about a grumpy landlord. In essence, I want to get stuck in!

What I don't want to get stuck into is a mortgage for life, which is why I am not moving out of home to rent as I feel like I'd be wasting precious money, which would be working towards owning a house outright...I know I will get there one day!

I want to go on holiday too, I want some sunshine and exploring to do, so I will leave you with these images that I'm lusting after... I want a deep bronze tan and a souk to explore (Morocco is definitely on my hit list of places to experience!)

Older & Wiser

Style is a mysterious thing.

I for one know that I'm am lost for style, yet have it all already. I feel like I'm constantly searching for my 'own' style of everything; photography, dressing, styling others, personality of design and creativity. I feel like I misplaced it and am getting clues about where it is all the time, yet I'm aimless in my search of discovering it. Hopefully it will just turn up.

Style is like an antique, the older it is, the more value it possesses. As one gets older and develops taste for certain things (thus, probably in the process of finding their style - or already in it?). In my case, less is more. I used to impulse buy everything, sales drew me in, cheap items wooed me, knock offs swayed me and imitations won me over time and time again. This was of everything from fashion to stationary, and was reflected in my lifestyle; scatterbrained and somewhat eccentric.

I'm still that in doses, but I have managed to soothe the urge to buy incessantly and now find wonder in good design and worth in the quality of workmanship. In terms of being a consumer, there is nothing I hold in higher regard than these. You could say I've grown up. I'd say I am growing up. Remember I am still looking for that confirmation of my style.

On the other hand, I feel like I can see everyone else's style, so they must see mine and no one can see, or wants to believe in their own still; if they do, they are making a lot of money out of it.

Style is like an antique. We value it more with age and we are better at choosing antique style/vintage as its the design that lasted. What does that tell us? Older people are often the best at styling themselves too. They are at an advantage - they've had extra practice. So that's what I am probably waiting for...ageing, so I know I've had plenty of practice and I'll give up and just hope I look good. Or maybe I just won't be that fickle anymore. Ha! Maybe that's the key!

If my boyfriend tells me his grandmother, Edna, owns the same skirt or pair of moccasins that I pick up, I will tell him that she has classic style and I'm saving him money in the long run, this "kit" will last! Anyway, I love this blog, Advanced Style capturing style at its most youthful on a generation of style gurus. Take notes while I leave you with my most favourite image of the moment: the colours, the styling and most of all the knowledge in the expression that he simple looks flawless.

I haven't blogged recently as I am trying to find a job, seeing family and moving home. Excuses, excuses, I know. I will get back to this and I am going to start documenting more of my daily photos/life once I have unpacked and moved in properly, and redecorated! There is a perfect balance of feminity and masculinity of the collection, I adore the blocked hues, berets, gorgeous hoods and cropped/3/4 length bottoms. Everything screams European sophistication to me. I'm in love.

I have been bouncing around the Southampton Solent Stall at GFW all week being judged for the Fashion Innovation Award and the New Business Idea award as well as chatting to lots of students and networking!

I should have been doing a lot of things recently. Should being the operative word. I've started making a list of things I want to achieve/do in the next few months, and thought I would share:

Month's interning at Topman PR - very excited!
Take more photos
Move out of uni rental house
Re-decorate home room - mushroom and cream colours I think with black and white highlights
GET RID - throw out old stuff...it's so hard to be ruthless though I am a sucker for keeping things a 'might need one day' but I have declared WAR on this mentality and intend on banishing it. Forever.
Go somewhere HOT and BAKE for a while.
Join the gym so I can run, sauna, swim and yoga regularly. I need to toneeeee.
Get a job...this is somewhat low on my list...I feel awkward about that, but it is also high on my priority list.
Attend GFW and fingers crossed to be shortlisted for the two awards I have been nominated for - New Business Idea and Fashion Innovation Award.
CLEANSE - body, mind, laptop, bedroom/clutter, old work, photos....everything needs re-evaluating!
Drink more water
Eat healthy
Eat less sugar (save my teeth)
Fix teeth...not cosmetically either, just medically :( I hate the dentist.
Use Clinique 3-step skincare routine daily :) its only been a day and its sooo good!
BLOG MORE
Update my website - I've started but it's not there yet!
Get new business cards! (and make some for my dad!)
See my little sisters and old friends!
Take more time out to relax so I dont get so stressed out and snappy.

I cant think of anymore at the moment and these are definitely not in priority order, but I feel better for writing them down and feel like Im making progress on it even though I've done nothing...

I'm having a love hate relationship with the next three weeks. On one hand I have 4 weeks and 6 days until my FMP is handed in, but I just found out about a second presentation on it, which may change when I am free, all because of the double bank holiday! (Curses...) I hope not.

On the other much more creative hand, I get to plan everything out for The Loft website and actually lay all the information I've been working hard on down. I absolutely love layouts, so I can't wait to get started!

I also have 2 more editorials of my own to style and direct, one of which is on Tuesday and the second will be the following week. I have definitely found a talent and passion for menswear, of all things. I came to uni to do a fashion course to help me decide what I want to do, I only knew I wanted to do something creative. After feeling at school as though I wasn't achieving in Art (where I always got my lowest marks) I couldnt understand my passion for it. My parents always told me that I didn't fulfill the syllabus. Now I couldn't agree more.

At GCSE and A-Level I was so far out of the box, it was simply a dot in my vision. I was thinking on conceptual level, about installations and the psychology of the reaction to art, not painting a direct replica of Van Gogh's Scream. I most enjoyed learning and delving into the abstract art world where emotion meant just as much as talent. I pulled through with a C.

At uni I wanted to prove my worth. My best friend had gone off to Oxford to study Maths, even though she is highly creative, and I felt in the same boat, torn between academia and creativity. I chose to push myself and prove I could work in the arts by doing Fashion Graphics, which was later changed into Fashion Promotion.

With each unit, a new challenge pushed me to do something new. I remember so many times saying how irrellevant it was and how I didn't see the point of the outcome. In hindsight, most of the projects were not worth it in terms of pushing my creative boundaries, but were worth it enough to pass with a good grade. Then project that changed everything propelled me into 'getting it'. The reflective writing element of a project combining a era of fashion with a subculture for a designer brand caused me to get a first. It made me summarise every article of information I put into my sketchbook, and to this day it is the sketchbook with the most information in it.

From there I strived to fulfill all the learning objectives and developed my understanding of how creativity is not always limited by a marking system, is just has to be worked into. I also learnt the importance of stopping doing work, talking about it with others and networking. I came up with some of my best ideas while talking to someone else; an idea would bloom in my head and spout out of my mouth making my ideas sound like they had always been there, often surprising myself. As if another person were talking through me.

My final major project started off as a terrifying thought. Having enjoyed writing my disseration on the recession, which was a complete shock to me, I had always been below average at grammar school, i picked up on some of the ideas I had drawn out of the 'mist' of current affairs.

Men. Men hadn't ever been in the forefront of my fashion considerations before, yet now they seemed like the holy grail had been found. Men were buying luxury fashion, more so than women. Why not chose menswear? My brain was being fearful, that I had never done menswear before and knew little about it, but my the rest of my persona said that I could 'learn on the job'.

I know that I was lucky. I took to menswear styling based on intuition of what I felt would be a good look, using my knowledge of womenswear and androgyny I create looks that appealled the the consumer in my head, who had become part of me since my consumer research and focus group interviews. Comments on the images started to come back; 'If I saw you walking down the street in that I'd be like, 'OH hello beautiful man'' exclaimed one of my assistants to the model as he walked into the room in a new outfit.

My confidence grew, more comments came back from my focus group, my tutors and others, all positive and excited about the next set of images. Having an amazing photographer and various brilliant make up artists improved my confidence even more as I knew I could rely on them to create beautiful imagery.

As you can tell, after many units, trying to find my main interest, talent or passion, I found it at the last hurdle. It's not too loose, it's not too tight and it doesnt itch...it feels like it fits me perfectly and I cant wait to go out into the real world in it.

Yesterday I did my first photoshoot for my final major project, stress is starting to lift but not quite there yet, I have another one next Tuesday...and no clothes as of yet...well a few, but Winchester will sort the rest out for me, for sure! Editing of the images will commence as soon as I get them (hopefully today!) for the project shots and then the photographer and I are going to sit down and edit them all together to make sure were both happy before any Internet coverage occurs. Personally I think that is a great idea, no one wants all someone else's ideas on the edits when you've both put a lot of effort into the shots! Can't wait!

The Stranger Speaks

Since starting my FMP, I have had to try to understand the mindset of a man...hard enough when you're in a relationship with one let alone trying to understand their day to day thoughts...

Anyway, one way I decided to do this was by looking at male Internet presence via youtube, blogs, lookbook and online communities. I came across Robert Dean, otherwise known as The Stranger Speaks. He is a Youtube 'Guru' fighting to show a male perspective on fashion, grooming and life skills. What particularly drew me to his videos was his keen eye for styling and out of the box thinking when it comes to dressing. Also, that he often comments through videos that the topic of conversation will make the wearer look more masculine. Masculinity is the key to each of his looks, which may surprise you considering he manipulates women's corsets to be worn as a new type of collar, in such a way that he oozes masculine style.

I was lucky enough to score an interview with Robert for my FMP about what he thinks about fashion, grooming and the appeal to men, and quickly got around to identifying his views on consumerism, which have personally changed my views somewhat. He made me think twice, which I like about someone because it means they inspired me and others. Here are links to check out and I am hoping he makes up a video of the interview questions soon, which I will post to share his ideas. For the mean time, Make-up for men...how Robert uses make-up to make himself look more masculine - a concept I would have never thought of, but really works. Thanks to Robert for the interview!

Comic Relief? - Sandrine Estrade Boulet

Sandrine Estrade Boulet creates comical illustrations from photographs of found or mundane objects/features, that other people would just walk on past. I personal adore these illustrations, I can image an exhibition of them with all the viewers smiling and discussing the imagery rather than walking around being all serious and acting like the work is really intense and powerfully telling them something...not that Boulet's work doesn't tell you something. It tell people not to take things so seriously, take note on whats around you and most importantly how exciting and intellectual the imagination is. What other device do we have that can predict, assume and create something that is not there. We possess something completely abstract, isn't that exciting? Maybe that's too deep...

Anyway, Boulet's aim, taken from her webpage sums up her work perfectly:
" To create a sensitive work that is fun, positive and totally disinhibited,
imagine spontaneous images than can make people feel good, putting a smile on their face : this is what really motivates me and amuses me. "

Riccardo Tisci has been confirmed for Christian Dior

I know it's a little controversial, but I am going to miss seeing John Galliano's work with Dior. Riccardo Tisci, former Givenchy designer, has just been given the role, and I for one am somewhat disappointed. I mean, I can see why they chose him, but to me he seems a like a watered down version of Galliano. That will probably work in favour for Dior, making it more wearable to many, but to me it will lack the spectacle and sumptuous luxury that Galliano brought. I loved the theme driven shows, his matching outfits at the end of each and the general Dior dream that each person watching fell into...

Now Chanel's shows will be almost unrivaled in this catagory - purely in my opinion. It's a shame. Here are some images of Tisci's work with Givenchy. Maybe his work will grow and bloom with the freedom to create at Dior, or will he dilute the image Galliano has created, or start something new? Maybe he has the ideas to create something innovative and completely different in terms of direction...at the moment I'm dubious, but kind of excited to see what he will come up with. In the mean time, Galliano will be sorely missed from the design world, I'm hoping this whole thing is resolved somehow (I am not condoning what he said/did) but its a terrible loss to British Fashion to lose one of our home grown. I mean, he even went to high school round the corner from where I lived!

Fashion Week Woes

I've been at London Fashion Week since Saturday, and met some lovely people, from bloggers to assistants, plus got given tickets to some of the shows, so thank you to everyone Ive met! Looking forward to Men's day tommorrow!

A journalist from Hong Kong engaged me in conversation outside Roksanda Ilincic and for some reason explained why he loves and doesnt enjoy fashion week. Odd, but he so spoke the truth!

He explained that he loves London fashion week as all the new talent is he. He considered the British designer the best in the world! He mentioned that so many European lines employ british talent and their name never gets heard even though they are the source of inspiration. I think that is so sad, especially that only those in the know realise that Britain is behind many successful designs. For once it is something we are good at, but it is not recognised.

On top of that, this gentleman hated fashion week because London venues are so spread out. The event is at 6 venues and various other locations! Most people dont want to travel from east to west and north to south all day. No two shows are after each other and so many do not both to attend all day. This also stops buyers attending as it is too much for them, especially in a foreign country. He mentioned that many Asian buyers just do not bother to travel all the way to London to have to go everywhere in London - completely understandable in my opinion! I for one am exhausted from traveling around everywhere on public transport. This makes it unsurprising why so many designers have slipped off the schedule, they just cannot afford it!

His suggestion, was to build a 6 storey building with high tech catwalk, which can change shape and move, to make the shows more theatrical - that would be amazing. It just means the government would have to invest in our fashion. I think they should, as it would bring in more and more money to help the economy, everyone needs clothes regardless of recession! We have Sam Cam on board now with the BFC, but i doubt big changes will come for a while! But lets hope, a British Fashion Building would be perfect to host everything in the same venue over different floors...or at least create something in Hyde Park like Winter Wonderland has!

Anyway, just thought I would share as it got me thinking!

Catch Up & Charity Tips

Okay, so my resolution of writing everyday failed within a few days. Sorry! But I do want to carry on blogging as much as i can, so i thought Id have a little catch up.

Starting off, please inform your friends about this blog, I'm going to get handing out more business cards at London Fashion Week, where I am working as a photographers runner, helping to supply vogue.com...and its paid, double yay! I really need some more subscribers to make this feel worthwhile! - or at least let me know you read this on facebook or something...

I've got back a couple of marks that count towards my degree, and at the moment I feel like im on the right track - job wise, I'm near to clueless! Boo.

Shopping wise, I'm trying to cut back, although I couldnt resist an Italian two piece silk top and trousers from a vintage stall at Totnes market this morning. I wouldnt wear them together, but I have already readjusted the top for an evening out and will be wearing the trousers one day of fashion week. I can't wait. I went into Totnes to check out the vintage shops and charity shops, just to browse and keeping my eye out of a pink shirt to wear at fashion week. So far unsucessful, I did however pick up a vintage faux fur jacket for £10 and a copy of Wonderland.

One thing I did want to pop onto the blog were some tips for charity shop shopping, as I've been asked by a few people how I managed to get such bargains, so here they are:

1. If its broke, dont worry - broken finds are sometimes the best ones. I've fixed zipper, changed buttons and dyed/washed stains out of things. Consider carefully if the problem is fixable, and if it is, by you or someone (probably your mum!) then go for it! (I dont want you all round asking me to dislodge zippers)

2. Check through your favourite magazine before you go. Jot down a few things that are ideal buys for you and fit well into your wardrobe - for instance I am looking for a pink silky or sheer shirt to wear with some leather patched leggings for fashion week, as id wear it throughout Summer because brights are in for the season, and i love silks and shirts as they are so versitile. Then go looking for your items.

3. Check in less obvious catagories - some charity shops have a 'designer' section which hold brand named goods, a combination of mens and womens wear. Also, consider looking in menswear for shirts or oversized knits. I recently bought a men XL arran knit cardigan for £4 pruely by looking in the right place. Zara cardigan, eat your heart out! Other examples: menswear bow ties, boys tshirts, boys sweaters, sportswear, sheets/fabrics for making new products, old swimsuits to change into leotards etc. etc. etc.

4. As well as looking for already wearable garments, look for things which would be easy to alter for instance, leather trousers make leather shorts, maxi dresses cut down to mini dresses, tops made sleeveless for ss11 to be in style. Jeans into shorts is the most obvious, get creative.

5. Jewellery for me is not a great draw in charity shops as I like my jewellery super quirky. However, there are sometimes some really goo bits to change the use of, for instance a cute brooch makes a great enhancement to the center of a collar instead of a bow tie.

6. Scarves and belts are often great buys in charity shops. Scarves can be restyled in hair or as neck ties, particularly if you get a good print of great tactile fabric.

7. Dont look for your size. Look for the items you love, I wear 14 or even mens XL...old sizing isnt as it is today. I found trousers, and tops that all feel best as a 14. And often if your small (im an 8) there isnt much choice in your size anyway. Remember also the staff are not going to judge each piece, simply read the label and hang the product from that.

8. Dont be afraid to dig. Dont go in there feeling self concious, there are many presumptions about people in charity shops. Yes, you do get some old balls, the elderly are often there too. Just remain polite and remember to ask questions if you need to, at the end of it all your helping a good cause by shopping there and not on the high street.

9. 'Old people' smell - yuck. Neutralise the smell musty smell of clothing by using a spray bottle with a little vodka in it. Just spray on and leave to dry. Should work for most items.

10. Go alone - stops squabbling over bargain finds! Just kidding, however, i find it easier to go alone as I get more done in a faster time, plus it means you can gloat more about your finds after, when people ask 'where did you get that?' - you could tell them anything!

Hopefully that helps those people! Also, check out vintage fairs, markets and ebay for other bargains.

Finally i was considering setting up a vlog on youtube with make up tips - im no professional, but certainly have a big love for doing makeup (mine or others) from creative makeup to everyday makeup and cover up ideas. My new years resolution...starting pre-christmas, was to blog everyday. This will be my first lame attempt and weve not even made the new year!

Im struggling through with a dissertation and a university project which are not going as quickly as plan. Plus the boy is on his way to meet my Dads family for the first time (after 8 months...yikes!) and I have to get everything tidies etc too!

Upstairs, Downstairs

I love history. Call me a nerd, but I could devour period drama and films any day. I recently watched the Other Boleyn Girl and the last two nights I've been tuning into the new 3 part series of Upstairs, Downstairs on BBC1. I've been researching further into Ozwald Mosely, as I hadnt heard of him before and found out a little more history of the East End in the process (top nerd, and proud to be!) Anyway, I think its one of the most beautifully shot period dramas recently. The costumes are also devine and I will be drawing inspiration for interiors and styling from the following pictures (taken from the BBC website):

How gorgeous are the interiors? And the casting is perfect too in my opinion!
Even 'Downstairs' is overflowing with inspirational colours and styling.

I wish men were still as dapper and suave as the 30s...that hair is immaculate!

Simple classic makeup too, oh! for beautiful skin!

30s 'Granny' Chic anyone? I for one am loving the collar and blouse! Not to mention the cute bob and side parting on the older woman! Bring it back in force!

Winter Shorts?

Today I put on a pair of my favourite shorts...surprise, surprise they are from Something Else. I'm wearing them with black tights, big grey knitted socks and a thin jersey jumper - I'm really liking blocking grey this winter - slightly more interesting than the standard black.

Anyway, I got thinking about the shorts in Topshop that I always lust after when I am in there. I've tried them on a million times but never purchased, and not because of the price tag. I feel like they look awful on me, yet I see tons of girls rocking the look on nights out. I am more than jealous! I just know I look better in other clothes so I can't bring myself to buy! Anyone else experienced 'Beautiful-On-The-Hanger' (BOTH) Syndrome? Let me know so I don't start questioning my sanity!

I really should spread out my posts to one a day, rather than 3 in one...or one night (two days...i'm up late and cant sleep because ive found too many new blogs to read!)

Working in London through the Summer enlightened me to a ton of new (to me) product ranges and designers, like Something Else by Natalie Wood in the post below, and the gorgeous products by Andrea Garland (click for her website).

She produces gorgeous beauty essentials in vintage packaging, and once your finished you can send off for a refill, which is way cheaper than rebuying, plus you can keep hold of your favoured packaging! (and feel really smug about being environmentally friendly) Plus (as if you need any more reasons to buy) the products are mostly organic, so yay for not plastering chemical preservatives all over your skin. My new love: Ebay.

I have become a complete ebay addict, with a side order of charity shops in small towns. So I thought I would post up my recent bargains and methods of finding perfect gifts etc!

I recently became a huge fan of brand Something Else by Natalie Wood, which is available at Harvey Nichols, Urban Outfitters & ASOS or directly from their website. (click links to be taken direct to something else part of each web page) To my delight, I keep finding gorgeous bits of the range on ebay and so far I own:

Mirror Print Dress - with waist tie - won at £19 RRP: £81, this looks great tucked into a high waist purple bandage skirt, or tied at the waist worn over leggings or as its designed, as a dress. Its so versatile, despite the dramatic print.

Shattered Print shorts - won at £11.60 RRP £60. My mum liked them so much shes taken them to Australia with her and Ive seen many pics already of her wearing them with a white vest top and gladiator sandals (my mum is rather on the button with fashion, but never dresses too young. she's awesome). I have worn these into uni with a dark grey Celine inspired silk shirt from a charity shop tucked in and a silver box tie, much to the approval of my course-mates, Jen and Fran, which was rather nice! (hi girls :))

I also got this kaftan, which I'm sure was about £14 but I can't find the auction, I think it has expired from my account. This item is a One Size piece, and is rather large, however teamed with a waist belt and 'jujed' (sp?) up over some leggings as shown it looks cute. Come summer time ill be rocking this out with bare legs and gladiators over my swimsuit! (fingers crossed!)

My most recent ebay buy was a dress for New Years Eve. My favourite tactic/way to avoid work is to go onto Harvey Nichols/Selfridges Brand list (pick your favourite department store) and use this as a tick list to search in ebay. I have found my best buy's this way.
This dress is from Whistles and is 100% silk. It was listed as having a slight mark on the front, but I have recieved it through the post today and it is gorgeous, The picture above from the auction doesnt do it justice! Plus I must be blind, as I cant find the mark for love nor money...I am rather smug as a last minute impulse bid won me the dress for £5.50. Boy, was I happy.

I have done a little Christmas Shopping on ebay too, winning a Lyle & Scott polo for my boyfriend and a little something else for my Mum. Here's hoping she doesn't read this till January when she returns from her world tour...alright for some eh!?

Finally...I know this is getting long, but I have had a bargain in a charity shop - My new gorgeous Arran knit cardigan in deep green sea blue. Tip of the day: find chunky knits in the menswear section. My cardigan was £4 and has old leather look buttons, plus I know no one else will have it, which is quite a good thing since I spend with days amongst fashion students...I can spot Topshop a MILE off (not that I dont love Topshop!) I took a coupld of friends into the same shop the other day and one bought another oversized cardi for the same price. Perfect over everything in Winter! and a great replacement for a jacket in Spring! Roll on the blossom!

Christmas Bargains!

I'm on Christmas 'break'. I say that as its hardly a break...I'm currently writing up my dissertation about 'How haute couture and luxury goods companies are suviving the recession'...and researching the strength of the pound is not the most exciting thing to be doing on Christmas Eve, Eve.

I'm not the most Christmas-y person, but I have been considerably more festive this year. Not sure why that is if I'm honest, maybe I'm just ready to settle down with a cup of Earl Grey infront of a wood fire next to a twinkly tree and REST? Probably.

Resting has been the last thing on my mind. I've been working for another week with Style Sight, again in the reporting department. To which I probably wont return due to my bosses getting a well deserved promotion! Well done! :) but sadly this means the replacement correspondents will not need interns after January! Hopefully I will be super busy (well, I will...FMP! *fear*) and won't miss it too much, although I do have a contact in their design department, which I will be following up if I have time to spare! Hopefully I will be working at Fashion Week again in Feb for First View, so if you see me madly running from venues yell hi!

I've made it down to my Dad's in Devon despite the snow, and am in the only place in Britain where it is not likely to see any snow on Christmas Day. Bah Humbug...I will however get to watch my little sisters, Verity, 8 and Imogen, 5 open their gifts from Father Christmas. I love how excited they are already!

I don't have a Christmas list this year, however, I have had a few presents already and I've bought myself a couple of bits. I got the below jacket from my boyfriend. I have to admit I was kind of confused about it at first, wasnt sure if I liked it. But after looking at it more closely I've decided its perfect to wear a nice thick jumper/cardi under it, unlike my black leather jacket which is too tight to layer up, and so too cold in winter. I feel like the jacket has a aviator feel about it, since it is dark brown and would look perfect with a massive pair of aviators, some skinny jeans and a pair of fur lined ankle boots!

I ventured into Topshop on Oxford St. after work one evening and ended up tryin on the below skirt:

It's gorgeous on - the picture doesnt do it justice. It's midi length would look great with some brogues and a cute silk shirt and a thin waistbelt, or heels and festive top. However, its price tag didn't fit with my student budget...£38. I decided to leave the item, and hunt a similar item down in a charity shop or on my new love: ebay. To my delight, that night I looked on ebay and ended up bidding on a replica vintage skirt, the only difference was a longer slip in my bargain (£5.50, yes i won it!) I can't wait to try it on as I had it posted to my dads so I could wear it over Christmas. Maybe I should start posting outfits? Comment if you want to see...

Recently I handed my Conceptual Practice: Research Project, which I had been working on through the summer. The project involved three areas:

Work experience report (10 A4 pages) describing our work experience placements
20 Page Research Sketchbook based on a comparision of two fashion cities
Trendbook reflecting a trend we had seen or forecasting a new trend from our research

My work experience was with StyleSight with the reporting department in London. I also worked with stylist Emma Lamp on a promotional video for Dinner for Schmucks (Paramount Pictures) and I was a runner for First View through London Fashion Week taking the priority clients images from each catwalk to the office to be instantly uploaded. I was excited about the last one as the priority client is Vogue.com.

You can see some of the work I did with StyleSight on StyleSightings and Small Talk - two blogs linked to the website which are free to view. I worked on the Feast on the Bridge post for Small Talk and one or two of my images have been used in StyleSightings.

My sketchbook research compared Istanbul to London asking the question How does an established fashion city compare to an upcoming fashion city? I looked at Street Style, visual merchandising, runway designers (new talent), bora asku (who covered both fashion weeks), economic, cultural info, historic info, architecture etc.

I like this futuristic editorial concept. The blurring/repetition of the models and stark layout enhnces this futurism feel, with some cool styling too.

I want this lamp in my house! I love the shadows it creates too!

This is a great design concept! Obviously these juice boxes represent the flavour they hold. Clever and fun, i bet kids love them - i know i'd like to get my hands on one!

Street Style @ Graduate Fashion Week & Shoreditch

Graduate Fashion Week took place at Earl's Court this year. I spent most of my time moving friends portfolio's to the top of the pile and running after fabulously, or maybe I should say 'interestingly' dressed people asking to take their picture.

I took about 50 photos of what people were wearing and catagorised them into mini trends which I think will develop through the Summer and then reappear in Autumn-next Summer in a variety of forms (growth or development for winter wear).

A couple of Sundays ago I went up to Shoreditch to do some more style spotting, which I found kind of intimidating at first, but as I got into it my confidence grew. I combined the pictures and had about 100.

Tip: For silk head scarves, pick a couple that compliments your natural skin tone and undertones (olive skin has yellowy undertones, where as fair skin tends to have pink undertones) The girls above have warmed their skin tone up with oranges, giving a glowy healthy feel, or cooled their skin tone down making it look more matte and flawless.

So, I recently bookmarked this editorial/interview, but I can't remember where it is from! Any ideas? Please comment if you know! I think it is a foreign (outside the UK) Elle, but I could be very wrong.

Anyway, I thought the idea was fun, and was an innovative way to picture high fashion, instead of the often boring white infinity screen (yawn!)...anyway, here are the images:

Especially LOVE the last image, I think its the most interactive with its background and is the most cohesive. The styling is perfect for the shot too!

Topshop Make-Up

As every girl in the UK is aware, Topshop have recently launched their new make-up range. I went into my nearest Topshop recently looking for some jersey shorts (found and purchased, for hanging about by the pool on a girly holiday to a friends villa in Spain, see picture below) I fell in love with a nail polish from the new range, cleverly positioned by the tills...my friend who was behind me also fell in love and we decided it would be the perfect time to paint our nails.

Gypsy Night - £5/bottle

The polish is called Gypsy Night and is what I would describe as dark green/black with large bronzed flakes in it, as well as lots of multi coloured glitter. However, this is simply the bottle colour, and I was disappointed on trying it out that it took 3 coats to fully cover the nail in an even, true to bottle colour, and I dont even have long nails...however, the final colour was gorgeous and I went onto topshop.com to snoop on what other delights the range has in store...here's a little wishlist:

Eyes:

Kohl in Thistle - perfect for brown eyes, to bring out warm tones.Skin:

Creme to Powder Blush in Neon Rose - Perfect for my skin tone (olive) to create a fresh faced (healthy looking 'i've been out for a brisk walk in cold winter air' glow) I'm pretty convinced the colour will diffuse onto the apples on the cheeks in a lighter shade to the potted tone.

Nails:

Stolen Sapphire Nail Polish - I havent seen a matte version of this colour and it reminds me of fountain pen ink!

Only 3 things, but im waiting for the AW10 seasonal collection...the SS10 one is pants in my opinion. Let me know what you think and Happy Shopping!

Okay, so everyone has really started getting into blogging recently which reminded me to update mine a bit more, even though not sure that anyone actually knows/reads about it since I moved the link on my facebook page...

So, purely for my own enjoyment I'm making this blog a visual one of things that have inspired me, or things i love...none are my own pictures and I'm not taking credit from them, most were found online from various websites :) and I guess they say a lot more about my personality that I could explain in words...I hope something here inspires you or make you laugh :)

I found these two images while researching for my last photo shoot (images to come) to decribe a nineties americana trend in a Pulp Fiction themed shoot - this has become a strong micro trend for S/S 10, which is awesome, and i'm totally gonna be all over it when (if...) the weather gets warmer. Love the vibe of the look, totally reminiscent of my childhood and having a fashion designer for a mother!...

I want these sunglasses and boots...is it wrong that I slightly want the metallic jacket too?...although I'm weary of metallic since I got yelled at by Southampton locals in the street when i wore metallic silver leggings out once...

I realise this image is side on, I couldn't be bothered to rotate it before uploading...so just deal. I thought it was fun - again found it when researching for the 90s shoot. (I have no idea why this bit is underlined...)

I'm a romantic, and i love her hair...and woodlands...and walking and talking with someone that you have tons in common with. Such a good way to spend a day.

In love with the hair and make-up here...looks effortless but so cute.

So fricking true. No one can make you feel an emotion it's your choice...I choose to be laidback normally, but some people have really been trying to evoke a reaction from me lately, and I love seeing how it pains them when I give a calm genuine reply.

Alice in Wonderland is out soon. Obviously going to be huge and def going to be on my Christmas list (the DVD) or maybe Easter since they are trying to release it early!

Spring Blossom, one of the best times of year is when you can go to the park on a warm day with a million pink blossom or magnolia trees in full bloom.

Balloons are a pretty recurring theme in this blog, but who doesn't love balloons...(why do we like floating balls of plastic?)

Anything 'Love' related instantly appeals to me. What you give out you get back and who doesn't want a bit of Love?

I love the vibe of this image, totally chilled, thrown on checked shirt (which i'm loving over absolutely everything whether or not it clashes, at the moment) and a pair of sunnies. My idea is if I wear sunglasses regardless of the rain it will encourage the sun...or I'll just keep getting funny looks till August.

Balloons again, I love running around outside in barefeet. Especially on grass in the summer. In fact, i love having barefeet as much as possible, which is weird for someone who absolutely adores shoes. But if you see me at home - barefeet, sitting in the park - shoes come off. Literally anywhere I can, I'll be shoeless.

Ok, if you've seen my bedroom, you will know that i LOVE weird necklaces and have them hanging about off my wardrobe, in boxes, in jewllery boxes....everywhere. I have a helicopter, masquerade mask, glasses, bows, headphones, bumble bees...and tons more, but this is so cool, I'm on the hunt for something similiar.

So, spring/summer 10 is bringing back micro pleats. Could i be happier...probably only if you bought me a boxer/bulldog etc...plus i've had a passion for ballet since i was 2, when i told my mother I had to attend classes, resulting in me getting a place at the Royal ballet school in London...but turning it down as everyone there looked miserable and too thin, even I noticed. Still, take me to the Kierov or any ballet and I'll be silent throughout and probably in awe all the way home. I'm not the quietest of people.

Played the piano since I was little and even now i could sit at one for hours making up little rifts or working out how to play a song from hearing it over and over. Any music from dnb to dubstep via rnb and pop with a piano or strings will be played full blast on repeat for days. Youtube, Wolfgang Gartner's 5th Symphony for inspiration.

This is a piece which i helped to style to feature in a fashion feature to support an advertising campaign on the Sensory trend for a friends piece. I also modelled for her shoot for Topshop featuring the Sensory trend. I've included a few of the images:

First is the first shoot I ever did. The brief was to create an advertising campaign for a company of your choice (fcuk) using a culture as inspiration (vietnamese). My concept was to create an east meets west theme through a modern twist on the traditional Ao Dai (tradition vietnamese dress). Here are a few of my favorite images of the final shoot.
